Description

The forest property consists of 46.30 ha, species include Sitka Spruce (SS) Picea sitchensis, Norway Spruce (NS) Picea abies and Lodgepole Pine (LP) Pinus contort. This forest was established via the afforestation grant system and was planted in 1994. The forest has plenty of boundary hedgerows/Riparian zones/scrub/harvest roads to enhance the biodiversity value of the forest. Harvest roads were constructed in 2007, 1176m in total; two roads with two separate entrances.

The forest is located in the townland of Bun, approx 7kms from the village of Cloghan, County Offaly. The surrounding area is popular for recreation, ‘The Offaly Way’ trail runs along the western boundary of FMU. It is designated as a National Waymarked Trail by the National Trails Office of the Irish Sports Council and is managed by Offaly County Council, Bord na Mona and the Offaly Integrated Development Company.
